Teaching Philosophy
My goal is not to teach writing but living – to bring alive the page, the lived experience of my students, their hopes and thoughts and dreams. Through various activities and experiments, I structure my creative writing classes as workshops of self-discovery through creativity.
My teaching experience includes teaching Creative Writing and Academic Writing at the University of Michigan as well as English Composition at the Columbus College of Art and Design. Aside from university teaching, I have led many one-time workshops at schools, conferences, art galleries, among others, as well as taught adult community classes at the McConnell Arts Center in Worthington, Ohio.
Academia
Academically, I am interested in postcolonial studies and literatures, immigrant and diasporic writing, translation, Arabic, and intercultural communication and education.
